We sell T-shirts.
Hmm… It seems I must amend my statement.
We sell T-shirts that make a difference.
So basically…
With every T-shirt we sell, we donate to the charities #TeamTrees and #TeamSeas so they can respectively plant a tree and remove a pound of waste from the ocean. If you wish to know more, like how the charities execute their acts of goodwill, you may read the ensuing paragraphs of pure knowledge.
#TeamTrees plants trees in the places where they are most needed. They generally plant local trees to support the environments around the plantations. #TeamTrees is partnered with Arbor Day Foundation, which is an established 50-year old nonprofit dedicated to planting trees. If your thirst for knowledge was not satisfied by this paragraph, you can find out more about the two companies at the links below.
#TeamSeas has partnered up with Ocean Conservancy, who feel passionately about stifling plastic production at it’s source and The Ocean Cleanup, who make the machinery and technology to get rid of the plastic already in the seas. To find out more, visit the links below.
Skipped the “So Basically…”?
Don’t worry, we don’t blame you.
Just know that
ALL
Of our T-shirts
Both
Plant a tree and remove waste from the ocean.
Worried about
production emissions?
Well, let me set you at ease.
Where the shirts come from.
The shirts’ place of origin is an Australian brand called AS colour. We made sure we had their eco cotton option for our t-shirts from them, or our entire business model would be counter-intuitive. We would have to advertise ourselves as just carbon neutral, not negative. A fate we could never bear.
Where the shirts are printed.
The shirts’ place of printing lies in Oakley, and they are printed by the company, Seen Promotions, once again, in an environmentally friendly way.
Packaging
(If you get it delivered)
We use HeroPack for our packaging, a brand who makes amazing packaging, which is both compostable and reusable. 30% of the packaging Heropack makes is made from plant based materials such as PLA, and the rest (70%) is made from a certified compostable bonding agent called PBAT. If you want to learn more, click here. Below are some instructions on what to do once you receive your parcel. Refrain from putting the packages in a recycle bin, read below for more information.
There are plenty of things to worry about if you want an entire product selling process to be eco, packaging is one of them.
Watch the video on the right, it shows you how to reuse the packaging.
If you cant watch the video, but can see pictures, scroll up to the top of the page so you can see the page header, then select “How to use HeroPackaging”, and follow the instructions with pictures.
If you can’t be bothered scrolling up (I couldn’t) or can’t see pictures, then follow the steps below these ones.
Open the package.
Take the Heron & Ibis product out.
Cut along the dashed line with scissors.
Insert the item you wish to send elsewhere (if you need not re-use the bag, follow the instructions on the other side of the page.)
Peel the white tape away that covers the adhesive.
Fold the adhesive over onto the package, and press together firmly.
Remove our postage label and replace it with your own/go to a post office and get it done for you.
Send to your recipient.
If you have no need to immediately re-use the Heropack, then you may choose what to do out of the 4 valid options below.
Return it to us yourself by driving to Luup and dropping it off, where, depending on its age, we can either re-use it and send it to an unfortunate customer who doesn’t get to send it again, and if you are one of those unfortunate customers, then we will compost it responsibly. (You can ask for a non-used package if you want)
Return it to us by attaching the label that is included inside your package to your package and sending it to us.
Compost the HeroPack by cutting it up with scissors, it should take 3-4 Months.
Keep it and wait until you need to re-use it, but be warned, depending on the conditions in which it is kept, it may lose some durability from the biodegradable nature of it.
Why You Cannot put HeroPacks in the Bin.
HeroPack packaging is not meant to be put in a recycle bin, as it cannot be recycled and will simply be taken to landfill, where it will struggle to decompose due to the lack of oxygen that can be found deep beneath piles of waste. However, it is still much better than normal packaging when both are put in landfill. HeroPack packaging takes 1-4 years to decompose in landfill (it only takes 3-4 months when composted properly), whereas normal packaging takes around 400 years to decompose in landfill, all the while releasing harmful chemicals.
You may be thinking now that there is not much wrong with disposing HeroPacks like you do with normal packaging, but you would be severely mistaken for two reasons.
If you were to throw out your HeroPack packaging, you would be missing out on so much. The healthy fertiliser that you could have boosting a garden’s productivity has instead gone to landfill to be suffocated beneath an ever-growing pile of landfill and never to see the light of day again. The personal satisfaction of knowing that you have helped the environment recover from the great monster that is traditional packaging reduced to naught (This paragraph’s purpose is to make you feel said shame). If you simply take the easy route out by throwing out your HeroPack, shame on you. A truck has to come and take your recycling, and then, from the recycling facility, another truck has to take your HeroPack to landfill, and however infinitesimally small your carbon footprint will be, your contribution will still be noticeable. Similarly to littering, one person makes a small difference, and yet the only way we can conquer the evil that littering is is by targeting the individual. You make a difference. Do Not Throw Out Your HeroPack! Please.
